For us, cooking is a ritual; a passion that has never left, and has travelled with us from Sudan to New Zealand.
We want to share this passion with you.

Wat is an extremely popular and traditional Ethiopian cooking sauce, and Mamia’s version is based on the very same recipe our mother used to make for us.
The exact same day-long process, the exact same dedication to care and quality.
Of course, we couldn’t help but add our own special twist - beautiful bursts of red onion amongst the vibrant (and delicious) tomato base, and a secret combination of exotic spices.
We are convinced that it is important to look after yourself by refuelling with simple, clean food that tastes amazing.
This is why each small, handmade batch of wat is entirely crafted out of natural ingredients.
No preservatives, no added nasties.
With a jar of Mamia’s wat, you can treat yourself to beautiful food at any time of the day. Use it as a relish, a simmer sauce, or a marinade with any meat or vegetable you want. It tastes just as good with fish, or beef, or tofu!
